What is SIPS and is it applicable to me?

Whilst the procedure is relatively new, Dr Gordon Padovan has been able to offer the SIPS Procedure to a number of patients who fit into the following groups

  • Those looking for an alternative to Gastric Bypass to avoid possible adverse medium or long-term events
  • Previous Sleeve Gastrectomy patients who have found they regained weight over several years

SIPS stands for Stomach Intestinal Pylorus-Sparing Surgery and currently has around 5 years of solid research behind it. Being a new procedure, intense consideration is given to each possible patient to ensure long-term efficacy and safety.

In theory, SIPS Procedure is less likely than Gastric Bypass to present adverse effects such as:

  • Marginal ulcers at the join between the stomach pouch and the small intestine*
  • Small bowel obstruction from it getting stuck in internal hernias*
  • Dumping syndrome*
  • Unstable blood sugar fluctuations*
  • Excessive food intolerance/restriction*

Dr Padovan is happy to discuss the SIPS Procedure with any of his new or current patients. If it is deemed to be a safe procedure for you, Emerge Surgical will then walk you through any next steps.
